No. The course assumes you are already running or preparing to run a retail shop, so it skips the very basics of starting a business. It does not, however, assume any formal business education. Everything is explained in plain, direct language aimed at working owners, not business students.
The course is most relevant to independent retail shops that carry physical stock and have at least one or two employees. This includes clothing boutiques, specialty food shops, hardware stores, gift shops, bookstores, and similar businesses. Food service operations like restaurants have somewhat different operational structures and may find some modules less applicable.
Each of the five modules is designed to take between 45 minutes and 75 minutes to complete, including the associated reference materials. The full course can reasonably be completed across five to eight hours of study time. Because it's self-paced, there is no required completion timeline.
